Oxford Blues Festival coming up July 18-20

Oxford is well-known in the blues world as the home of Living Blues magazine, the University of Mississippi Blues Archive, and Fat Possum Records, but it wasn't until a couple of years ago that it began hosting it's own blues festival.

The headliner for this year's Oxford Blues Festival is Johnny Winter, who is honored with a Mississippi Blues Trail marker in Leland, where his father was mayor -- although his family was living there at the time of his birth, but he was born in a hospital in Beaumont, Texas.

As you can see below the festival is still booking artists, but there's a nice lineup of downhome blues, including Natchez veterans Elmore Williams, Hezekiah Early and Little Poochie. Also performing is harmonica player and instructor Adam Gussow (of Satan and Adam), who also teaching English at Ole Miss.

  1. The restaurant week desserts were a chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse and coconut cheesecake. The chocolate dessert was very small (restaurant week portions) but very good. The cheesecake came out partially frozen (booo) but was still tasty. Taxi Oxford to London
