Indianola honors "Queen of the Jukes," Mary Shepard this Saturday -- B.B. King Homecoming Festival July 3

On Saturday the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center will host an event at the Club Ebony honoring Mary Shepard, who ran the club from the early '70s until just several years ago, when it was purchased from her by B.B. King. He subsequently turned it over to the Museum.

Between 6-8 pm a street will be renamed in her honor, and various local musicians will perform. At 9pm Mickey Rogers and the Soul Blues Band will perform at the Club Ebony--there will be a $5 cover for that show.

This Friday the Museum's weekly free "Music on the lawn" series will feature Russell Baxter and the 21st Century Band, though this week it will be held inside at the Club Ebony.

B.B. King will make his annual homecoming back to Indianola this year on July 3, when the Museum will host a festival in his honor. He usually also performs a concert the evening of that event at the Club Ebony.
