Delta Blues Museum to receive award at the White House today



On Wednesday, May 8th Clarksdale's Delta Blues Museum will receive the National Medal from the Institute for Museum and Library Services at a ceremony at the White House presided over by First Lady Michelle Obama. Accepting the award is museum director Shelley Ritter. The Museum's press release is here.

The White House will stream the ceremony live at www.whitehouse.gov/live. The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT. There will also be live tweeting during the ceremony from the IMLS Twitter account @US_IMLSwww.twitter.com/us_imls.

A celebration/fundraiser for the Delta Blues Museum's Deep Roots campaign will take place between 5-8pm at the Rock & Roll Hotel (1353 H Street), featuring Travis Calvin, a 22-year-old slide guitar player who got his start at the Delta Blues Museum, and the leading DC area band The Nighthawks.
